ASTM F 899 XM-16 UNS S45500 Wrought Stainless Steel for Surgical Instruments
XM-16 is a martensitic, age-hardenable stainless steel. This alloy represents a significant advancement in the area of preciptiation hardening stainless steels. XM-16 has three times the yield strength of standard 304. It lends itself well to heat treatment and fabrication, has exceptionally high yield strength, good ductility and toughness. XM-16 resists staining in normal atmospheres and shows no corrosion in fresh water.
